The five components of Web Development
Step by Step Design and Build
Interface Development for the Web (be it for a commercial web site or for a web application to support business needs) relies on a set of interdependent components shown below.
Such components when used together correctly are more likely to produce a site or application which meets the following user requirements. Using the five components then a web site or application will:
- be visually appealing
- be quick to load
- provide content which is up to date and which is relevant
- have good well thought out usability
- meet or move toward W3C and WAI guidelines
- be robust and thus reliable in operation
- convey the required 'message'
- generate new users or business (if required)
If any of the components is not present then the development will almost certainly fail; and (very importantly) where these components are present then they need to be incorporated into a development correctly and diligently. Of course each component has a multitude of methods incorporated into it. The choice of the relevant method for the right purpose is key to getting the design and development right to meet the stakeholders and the users needs.
In short the old analogy applies:
"when you build a house to last you need to start with a deep and solid foundation."
